Invasive Species Plant Control

The traditional territories of the Colville Tribes extend across eastern Washington and into portions of British Columbia, Oregon, and Idaho. The 9,290 members are made of up twelve different bands, all with their own rich history and traditions, yet they have come together to become the Colville Tribes. Despite the differences, they all share a love of nature and an emphasis for preserving it. However, despite being numerous in bands, their total size is about 1.4 million acres, and they cannot tend to it all alone. Weeds and invasive species threaten the ecosystem, stealing nutrients and water from native species and killing them without remorse. These pests take up living spaces from indigenous species and in turn can be harmful to other wildlife that depend on the native species for food and habitat. In addition, the weeds can effect humans by destroying crops and farmlands, effectively shortening food supply for locals and beyond.

Because of this danger, the Colville Tribes are requesting bids for herbicide treatment in the Okanogan County Area of the Colville Reservation to treat these invasive species and noxious weed species. Tending to the weed problems quickly can be beneficial in the long run by minimizing the amount of chemicals used, and for that reason the timing of the herbicides must be taken into account. Because of that, the Colville Tribe is only looking at vendors with prior knowledge on these matters to ensure the best possible future for the wildlife and themselves.
